Mae Lois Young-Wall Hill, transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Mae Lois as she was so lovingly known was born on September 1, 1930, to the late May T. Young and Louise Keys in Salisbury, NC. She grew up in Greensboro, NC where she was raised by her grandmother, the late Eliza Heath. She attended James B. Dudley High School graduating with the class of 1950.
Mae Lois was a very active individual, she was a Founding member of St. Paul Baptist Church where she faithfully attended until her health started to decline. She also was a member of the Usher Board, Missionary Ministry, Jubilee Choir, Spiritual Choir, Culinary Ministry, Senior Travelers and she served as Church Secretary and announcer.
For many years she served as class treasurer for the class of 1950 at James B. Dudley High School. She was very active in her community where she served as treasurer on the Friendly Neighborhood Watch Committee.
Mae Lois attended and graduated from MACO Beauty School where she was also crowned Ms. MACO. She was also a member of the Gate City Cosmetology Association. Mae Lois at one point in her life served as a Radio Announcer at 1510 WEAL radio station as well.
Mae Lois was a member of the Magnolia Chapter 23-Order of the Eastern Star PHA, where she once held the position of Worthy Matron. She was also a member of PRPM of Susan P. Rankin #1 and the American Legion Chapter #267.
Mae Lois loved to cook and feed her family and friends, she was well known for her homemade fruit cake, hummingbird cake, strawberry cake and candied yams.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband the late Essex Curry Hill (Buddy), and her son Walter Thomas Wall, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Malinda Wall-Shaffers, Samuel L. Wall and Deborah K. Wall-Blackwell all of Greensboro,NC and a special son William (Bill) Roger Soles; Aunt: Louise Young; special cousin: James R. Johnson(Janice); eight (8) grandchildren; ten (10) great grandchildren; twelve (12) great-great grandchildren. One nephew and a host of nieces from South Carolina. Her personality and presence will be missed by all who knew her.
A service honoring her life will be held Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Paul Baptist Church; 1309 Larkin St. Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12 pm. The interment will take place following the service Maplewood Cemetery; 235 Bingham St. Greensboro, NC.
