He departed this life for a better home on March 7, 2013.Luther moved to Greensboro at an early age. He was employed by DeSoto & Sherwin Williams Paints for 31 years. He retired in 1999 and worked part-time at Frist Student for 10 years. Luther was a loving husband, father and friend. He was a devoted member of St. James Baptist Church and served as a Stewart, and a board member of St. James Homes. He accepted Christ as his savior, and always lived a life of serving God and helping others. He had a passion for golf and he played very well. Luther was preceded in death by, a son: Luther J. Dawkins, Jr; Sisters: OlaBell Gray and Wille Mae Gray; brothers: Thomas Dawkins and Robert Lee Dawkins.Luther leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Gwendolyn Dawkins of the home; daughters: Desiree Whitted, Janice Wade (Vance) both of Greensboro, NC; adopted daughter: Clara Williams of Greensboro, NC; grandsons; Stacy Ryan Lea, and Luther Trey Dawkins, both of Greensboro, NC, Evan Luther Dawkins of Anaheim, CA; granddaughter: Desiree Michelle Wade, of Greensboro, NC; great granddaughters: Promise Lea and Jayla Dawkins, both of Greensboro, NC; daughter-in-law: Candance Dawkins, of Anaheim, CA; sisters: Icelee Mathis, Sarah Dawkins, Myrtle Duncan, and Azziemena Hawkins (John) all of Spartanburg, SC; Aunts: Rosetta Dawkins, of Greensboro, NC, and Mary Hollis of Spartanburg, SC; sisters-in-law: Nancy Dawkins of Greensboro, NC, Mary Dawkins of Spartanburg, SC and Ruby Smith (Charles) of Allentown, PA; a host of nieces , nephews, cousins, and friends.But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they walk, and not faint.
