Obituary

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV) Lloyd Otis Norman was born on December 22, 1951 to the late David A. and Bessie Rochelle Norman in Brevard, NC. He departed this life on June 8, 2015. At an early age he moved to Greensboro where he attended the Guilford County Public Schools. Lloyd was a graduate of James B. Dudley High School, Class of 1970. He furthered his education at Guilford Technical Institute, now known as Guilford Technical Community College. Lloyd was united in holy matrimony to the former Patricia Brandon on May 12, 1974 in Danville, Virginia. They celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary just last month. To this union, two children were born. Lloyd was employed by various companies throughout the years as a machinist and welder. He was most recently employed at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) as a Building & Environmental Technician. He was employed at UNCG for twelve years and primarily worked in the Aycock Auditorium. He was recognized for his efforts in the building on several occasions by his supervisors and peers. He served as a member of the University's Staff Senate for two years. He was also proud of his work on the Facilities Services Safety Committee, where he coined the phrase, "Safety in mind is no accident." Lloyd was a firm believer of the Word of God and he studied the Scriptures daily. Lloyd would always have an encouraging word for everyone around him. Immediately after meeting Lloyd, you were no longer strangers. He was a friend to all who knew him and his knack for sayings and phrases will always be remembered. We can imagine that when God called his name in Heaven, Lloyd turned and said, "But of course!" In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by three brothers, David Norman, James Norman and Isiah Norman and three sisters, Ruth Reid, Thelma Peace and Betty Norman. Lloyd leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved and devoted wife of 41 years, Patricia Brandon Norman; two daughters, Synia Norman Boyers (William III) and Myia Elizabeth Norman, both of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, William IV and Lauren; two brothers, Willie Norman and Wilbur Norman; one sister, Priscilla Norman, and a host of relatives and friends.
