Linda Ann James was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on October 2, 1943 to Janie and Moses James. She graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1961 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, dance team, and choir. She attended North Carolina College at Durham (now North Carolina Central University) where she was a member of the choir was also a member of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. Linda earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 1965. She married Calvin Burnell Freeman in 1966 who preceded her in death in 1981. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years at various schools with the majority of her time spent as a high school English teacher at High Point Central High School in High Point, North Carolina. At Central she served as English Department Chair and established a student organization called Exolo (Extension Of Love) to support black students. She leaves to mourn her aunt Arletha Lash, brothers Johnny Hutchinson and Charles Hutchinson, sister Margaret Jarrell-Peace, three children: Calvin Freeman, Kelly Freeman, Trudy (Freeman) Lewis, and nine grandchildren: Shamekka Stallings, Jalisa Freeman, Devan Owens, Semia Hamlin, Kelly Freeman, Jr., Sophia Freeman, Amarie Lewis, Bradley Lewis, and Zachary Lewis. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:30 am with funeral services to follow at 11am at Saint Stephens United Church of Christ located at 1000 Gorrell Street, Greensboro, NC 27406. The interment will take place following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park.
