Obituary

Lillie Bartie Jackson beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully after a long decline with multiple system atrophy on June 8, 2022 in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born in Creole, LA on September 27, 1938 to Lovenia and Bryant Bartie.

She attended Grambling University for 2 years. Lillie met her husband Ernest Jackson over 60 years ago in Cameron, LA. According to legend, he snatched "a pretty young thing" riding on the back of an alligator. They were married on November 5, 1960 in Reedville, VA. Years later after migrating to New York, the couple welcomed their daughter Lisa and settled into the small village of South Floral Park, NY. She worked for the federal government in the departments of internal revenue and defense. During many years of dedicated service, she garnered a plethora of accolades and awards. Lillie was active in her community serving on the board of a local parochial school as well as the ladies auxiliary to the volunteer fire department.

Approximately 15 years ago, Lillie and Ernest moved to Greensboro, NC to be closer to their grandchildren. Her passion in addition to her family was reading and caring for pet cats. She was a regular host of a book club. She was an active, avid parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She was profoundly loving and loyal, but she was no shrinking violet. She had a disarming wry sense of humor. She was always the quintessential lady. She possessed grace and poise. She is survived by her husband Ernest, daughter Lisa, sisters Mary and Lorina, brothers Walter and Bryant, grandchildren Celeste, Penelope, Gabrielle, nieces and nephews. A beautiful light has gone out. She will forever be missed and always in our hearts. Donations to the Defeat MSA Alliance or The Multiple System Atrophy Coalition would be appreciated.

A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 27, 2022 at 11am St. Paul Apostle Catholic Church, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Road Greensboro, North Carolina. Celebration of Life will take place at O' Henry Hotel.

Professional services are entrusted to Perry J. Brown Funeral Home.
