GREENSBORO â?? Mr. Lenwood E. Edwards, Sr. departed this life suddenly on Saturday April 28, 2012.On Thursday May 3, 2012 visitation with the family begins at 12 p.m. at Trinity AME Zion Church; followed by the service at 1 p.m. The church is located at 631 E. Florida Street, Greensboro, NC 27406. The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Omega Ritual will be held at 11:30 a.m. prior to visitation. Lenwood was born April 12, 1940 in Snow Hill, NC, graduated from Johnson C. Smith University, Springfield College, and N.C. A & T State University. He served as a dedicated educator, coach and mentor in the Guilford County Schools for over 40 years. Lenwood was the first African-American athletic director at Greensboro Day School. He is known for countless hours of community service to a multitude of civic organizations, boards and foundations. His place of peace was Trinity AME Zion Church. Lenwood was the consummate motivator, counselor, and friend. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile. Lenwood leaves to celebrate his legacy a loving wife, Valeria W. Edwards; daughters, Ronda Forbes (Fitzroy) of Charlotte, NC; Rosalyn Marsh of Greensboro, NC; and sons Lenwood, Jr. (Lee) and Lewis of the home; three grandchildren; sisters Ruby Elmore (Austin Hughes) of Bunn, N.C.; Beulah Mewborn of Snow Hill, N.C.; a devoted mother-in-law, Ginny Williamson and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lenwood Edwards, Sr. Endowment Fund at Greensboro Day School 5401 Lawndale Drive, Greensboro, NC 27455. The interment is immediately following the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family is being skillfully served by Perry J. Brown Funeral Home.
