Lelia Roberts Brooks passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the age of one-hundred six (106). She was born in Cleveland County, Shelby, North Carolina on February 2, 1912, to the late Clarence and Eugenia Oates Roberts. She was married to the late Joseph (Joe) Brooks for sixty (60) years. Lelia was preceded in death by her only child, James (Jim) Roberts; six (6) sisters: Margaret Lateny, Mamie Roberts, Julia Roberts, Isabella Ramseur, Elizabeth Lewis, and Leoila Patterson; four (4) brothers: Gus Roberts, John Roberts, Josh Roberts, and Robert Roberts. Lelia was employed by Sweet Shoppe Bakery during her earlier years. She was also a homemaker. She was known for the love of her fancy hats and flashy jewelry. She was a loyal and faithful member of Temple Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Group Six. Left to cherish her memories: one surviving sister, Iola Ellis of Shelby, NC; a favorite nephew: Samuel (Eloise) Whitworth, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved in-laws and friends. A service honoring her life will be held at the Cassie Coote-Brown Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E Market St. Greensboro, NC 27401 on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. The visitation will begin at 12:30 pm and service will follow at 1 pm. The internment will take place following the service at Piedmont Memorial Cemetery; McConnell Rd, Greensboro.
