Obituary

Mr. Larry Jordon passed away Friday, July 24, 2026.

Funeral will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 11:30 am at New Zion Baptist Church 408 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Greensboro, NC 27406. Visitation will begin at 10:30am.

Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park 3600 North O'Henry Boulevard Greensboro, North Carolina.

Larry, also known as “PawPaw,” was born April 26, 1948, to James S. Jordon and Julia J. Jordon in Annapolis, MD. He received his early education in Norfolk, Virginia, where he attended Booker T. Washington High School and graduated with the class of 1966. While at Booker T. Washington High School, he excelled in several sports, with his biggest passion being football. After high school, Larry continued his studies at Norfolk State University.

While living in Virginia, Larry worked for the Norfolk Parks & Recreation Department and was promoted to athletic director. After moving to Greensboro, North Carolina, Larry continued his career in athletics as the athletic director for Hayes-Taylor YMCA. He later began a new career as a courier for FedEx, where he worked until his retirement.

Larry was a proud and active member of St. John Lodge #12, Khalif Event Center Temple #144 Magnolia Chapter Eastern Star #23, and Greensboro Consistory #106. He received several recognitions, including Grand Inspector General, Noble of the Year in 2004, Outstanding and Exceptional Leadership in 2001 and 2002, and Prince of the Year in 2002. Larry also enjoyed spending his free time playing cards every Tuesday with his friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, James Jordon; his mother, Julia Jordon; and his little sister, Ellen.

He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Evette Jordon; his daughters, Jasmine (Kenneth), Renee Rodgers, and Angela McDowell (Dwight); his sister, Delois Lowery (Sterling); his brother, Lloyd Jordon (Feleta); his godson, Jermey Carter; his nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

His body may no longer be here, but his smile and spirit will always be around.
