Obituary

Larita Michelle Spruill Moone was born on March 26, 1960 to the late Supt. John E. Spruill and Ernestine Spruill in Greensboro, North Carolina. She went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2014 at the Piedmont Hospice Home in High Point, NC. Chelle (as she was affectionately called) was born and raised in the COGIC, her life was shaped by upbringing of her parents at Small Street COGIC and Wells Memorial COGIC. She was active in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and YPWW as well as traveling to Pinehurst, NC for church services (Spruill Temple COGIC). Her mother describes her as being " a good little girl who loved her parents. Her youth was full of friends, family and sports. She spent her youth playing sports excelling in the areas of volleyball, basketball, and softball. In High School, she was a member of the 1977 State Volleyball Championship Team and the 1977 Softball Conference Championship Team at Grimsley Senior High School form which she graduated in 1977. Her prowess on the field earned her an athletic softball scholarship to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. During her freshman year, she was part of the team that became the first HBCU to win Division 1 softball championship in North Carolina. She was also named to the NCAIAW All State Team. She later won the NC A&TSU Intramural Department Miller High Lite One-On-One basketball tournament. Her abilities were soon displayed in community teams where she played until she could no longer play because of knee problems. Loving people was a major component of Chelle's personality and she loved working with the public. She stayed at her various jobs for lengthy periods of time and later in life found herself in love with baking and decorating cakes. She enjoyed meeting people and being of service. Chelle was surrounded by friends with whom she was loyal and had special relationships with them all. She was quiet and reserved about her own life, but was devoted and caring concerning the cares of her friends. Family was important to Chelle and she had a remarkable and unwavering love for her family. As the youngest child, she was often the caregiver for her ever increasing number of nieces and nephews. On September 23, 1996, Chelle married her best friend, Ulysses Moone. Together they created a tight knit and loving family that included Ulysses daughter, Aricka Pinnix. Her husband notes that his wife put others before herself, including him. "She always wanted to make sure that I was doing ok." She was also a caregiver for her parents and spent a lot of time in caring for them and their household. She also cared for her sick siblings and looked out for her nieces and nephews. Even as she battled cancer, she continued to be a devoted wife to her husband and caregiver for her parents and sister. Her husband remembers moments of having to carry her to bed after coming home from caring for others. Her strength amazed him and her love was a balm to him. He is glad that she is no longer in pain and has "gone to her mansion in the sky with her tambourine" Her sickness ignited her faith and in the midst of the battle, she recommitted her life to Christ. Words can hardly express the depth of our loss for this beloved wife, stepmom, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She leaves to celebrate her memory, her beloved husband, Ulysses Moone, step-daughter, Arica Pinnix, mother, Ernestine Spruill of Greensboro, NC, siblings: John E.
