Mrs. Lafleta Laverne (Hughes) Woods, was called to her heavenly home on Monday, May 14, 2018. She was survived by her husband Boyd William Woods Jr. She was the daughter of Aubrey T. Hughes Sr. and Marie Hughes who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws; Boyd William Woods Sr. and Ada F. Woods brother-in-law; Doug Woods and sisters; Peggy Wilkins and Gloria Hughes. Lafleta worked as a Medical Technologist for many years at Women's Hospital of Greensboro before her retirement in 2013. Her matriculation was from James B. Dudley in 1965. She then went on to receive her B.S. in Biology from Bennett College where she was a member of the graduating class of 1969. She attended Medical Technology School for two years in Staten Island, NY were she became a certified Medical Technologist. Lafleta was a member of East White Oak Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC for more than thirty years. She was a devout Christian and trusted God as her steps were ordered to become an ordained minister in 2008. She later became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC, where she served on the ministerial staff. Lafleta loved being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by five children: Timothy (Denise), Germaine (Dianne), Boyd III "Bubba", Jamelle Lofton (Shawn) and Chad Woods. Survived by grandchildren; Alea` Summers, Justin Hensley, Courtney Woods, Nicole Woods, Yasmine Johnson, Nina Woods, Maria Lofton, Lauren Woods, and Shawn Lofton Jr. She is also survived by her brother Aubrey T. Hughes Sr., and sister Francis Gripper (Willie) in addition to sister-in-laws; Linda Chrisp, LaSha Davis (Curtis), Paulette Martin and brother-in-law Steve Woods (Karen). Mrs. Lafleta Woods leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. A service honoring her life will be held Friday, May 18, 2018 at East White Oak Baptist Church; 1815 Water St, Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 1 pm and the service will follow at 2 pm. The interment will take place following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N O'Henry Blvd, Greensboro, NC.
