Friday, April 6, 2012 11:00 A.M.Union Memorial United Methodist Church1012 East Lee StreetGreensboro, North CarolinaReverend Otta Harris, III OfficiatingKatye Graham, the youngest of six, was born on April 19, 1931, in Hoke County, NC, to the late Matthew W. and Katie McKeithan Graham. On Friday, March 30, 2012, she peacefully passed away at a rehabilitation facility after an extended illness.Mrs. Watson received her primary education in Hoke County and at a boarding school in South Carolina. After graduation from boarding school, she entered NC A&T State College and graduated with honors in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She later earned a Master of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Tufts University in Massachusetts and was an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education for 30 years at NC A&T State University before retiring in 1989.She met Alexander Watson while a student at NC A&T, and they later married in Germany and honeymooned in Paris in 1955. She was a devoted and loving mother to two sons: Michael (1958) and Christopher (1965).She joined Union Memorial UMC in 1957 and was a faithful member who served in many ministries, including: the church nursery, Sunday School, the United Methodist Women, a communion steward, and organizing and ordering The Upper Room subscriptions for the church. She was also involved in many community organizations: Beta Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (50+ years), Jack and Jill, (4-year Bible study), the Silhouettes (spouses of members of Kappa Alpha Psi), and the local Retired Teachers Association.Additionally, after retiring, she was a site surveyor who certified Head Start teachers across several states in the Mid-Atlantic region.She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.Survivors include husband Alexander Watson, Greensboro; sons Michael A. Watson of Chicago and Christopher G. Watson of Greensboro; brothers Lincoln Graham of Fayetteville and Samuel Graham of Raeford; sisters-in-law Carolyn Graham of Fayetteville and Mable Graham of Boston; daughter-in-law Andrea Watson of Jamestown; granddaughter Lauren Watson of Jamestown; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nephews/nieces, god children, relatives, and friends.
