Josephine Raphael, 78, died Friday, May 18, 2012. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 at United Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 2501 E. Wendover Ave., Greensboro. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. Mrs. Josephine Raphael, age 78, departed this life on May 18, 2012 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. She was born as Josephine Compton on May 23, 1933 in Greensboro, North Carolina to parents Joseph and Lela Mae Compton. She had three siblings, two sisters Lula Mae and Linda Joyce and one brother, James Edward. Mrs. Raphael was married to Mr. Ronald Raphael. She had five beautiful children: James Griggs, Jr. (deceased), Wayne Raphael (deceased), Sheila Smith (Willie), Deborah Raphael, and Timothy Compton. Mrs. Raphael worked for over 35 years and retired from Greensboro Health Care Center now known as Golden Living of Greensboro. She was blessed with a host of family and friends. She is survived by the following children: Shelia Smith, Deborah Raphael and Timothy Compton. In addition, one sister: Rev. Linda Williams (Jesse); three grandchildren: Ratisha Compton, Tiara Compton and Bryant Clarke; two great-grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews: Mrs. Brenda Moore (Rudy), Mr. Victor Crenshaw (Faye), Mr. Hershey Crenshaw, Jr. (Deidre), Ronald Compton (Susan), James Cook, Jr., and Marquisia Barbara Pratt (Jeff).Mrs. Raphael was preceded in death by her husband: Ronald Raphael; sister: Lula Mae Crenshaw (Hershey); brother: Reverend James Edward Compton (Mary); sons: James Griggs, Jr. and Wayne Raphael; and her beloved grandson: Willie A. Smith, II.Mrs. Raphael was also a very avid church member. Mrs. Josephine Raphael was an active member at United Friendship Church (Missionary Baptist). She was honored to serve as a pastorâ??s aide among other various church activities. She was also a Mother of the church.
