Obituary

Mr. Joseph (Joe) David Jeffries was born on December 6, 1950 to the late Howard Walden Jeffries and Thelma Parker Jeffries. He departed this life on May 11, 2020 at 7pm at his home in Greensboro surrounded by his family. Joseph, who his family affectionately called "Poppy" was a man a faith who loved his family immensely. He was reared as a farmer in Guilford County and graduated from Northeast High School in McLeansville, NC. After high school, Joe enlisted in the United State Army where he served as a military policeman. In 1979, Joe met and married the love of his life, Pearl. He often said that his life did not begin until he met her. Together they raised three children and started several businesses. One of those businesses was Jeffries Ceiling Company. Joe work diligently as the sole proprietor and chief contractor for his dream business. He became one of the most sought-after contractors in the area for his field. His work can be seen across NC and beyond. He was the drop ceiling master. Joe would often be seen wearing his toolbelt, with a pencil behind his ear and whistling a gospel tune. He worked his business until his illness would no longer allow him to. Outside of his profession, he loved spending time with his family and working in the church. He was an ordained Deacon and carried out his duties faithfully for more than 30 years. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and you could often catch him running around the church with both hands in the air and yelling out his signature praise during service. Deacon Jeffries was always willing and ready to lead the congregation in a powerful prayer and did so without hesitation until his disease would no longer afford him the words. Joseph was a kind and loving person who would always greet you with handshake and a heart melting smile. He was a giver and would do anything to help others. He adored children and was known for adopting and love washing (his words) other people's children. He love-adopted several throughout his life, namely Michael Harvey, Tony Davis, Willette Chapman, Tiki Bigelow, Chiemere Wingate, Felicia Davis, and Dexter Vines. Joseph leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 41 years, Pearl, their three children Derek Davis (Trina), Elliott Lamont Davis, and Lakecia Gunthrop (Shawn) all of Greensboro, NC., 10 grandchildren, Antonio Carr, Devin Davis, Breonnah Davis, Jaylin Davis, Keira Davis, Imani Davis, Keshawn Gunthrop, Amare Davis, Kealen Gunthrop, Kamryn Gunthrop, one great grandson Rylen Davis, and a love-adopted granddaughter Precious Hinton, his brother-in-law and pastor Bishop Dwight A. Davis, two sisters, Margie Fryar (Richard) Elise Brown (William), and four brothers, Carl Jeffries (Nancy), Charlie Jeffries (Wanda), Lonnie Jeffries, and Harry Jeffries and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph was proceeded in death by three brothers Willie (Bill) Lee Jeffries, Sr, Robert Jeffries, and Jessie Weldon (Pop) Jeffries, and one sister Mary Dot Jeffries Milton. A New Orleans style parade service will be help on Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens at 1:00pm. The family would like all extended family and friends who wish to attend to line the gardens, six feet apart, for the parade processional.
