John Wesley Phillips Sr. was born to Walter Phillips and Carrie Phillips on  February 15, 1915 in Calhoun County,  St. Matthews,  SC. He departed this life on September 18, 2014 at his home in Greensboro, NC.  He was married to Rovenia Whaley Phillips, and to this union, six children were born. John was a faithful member of  St. Paul Baptist Church.  He was an active member of the Deacon Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Senior Travelers and Male  Chorus, as his health permitted him to.  He was a Patriarch of his family; generous, kind, compassionate, faithful and gracious. John was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Rovenia Phillips,  and sons, James Phillips and John Phillips Jr. He leaves to cherish his  memories, a son; John Henry Phillips, three daughters; Vernell Campbell (David), Carrie Phillips and Willie Mae Thompson, a special niece; Ada  Morgan (Heyward) and a host of grand children, great grand children and great, great grand children
