John Henry White, loving husband, brother, father and grandfather, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017. John, son of Walter and Lizzie White, was born on February 20, 1934 in Greensboro, NC In 1959, he married his sweetheart, Gwendolyn Harris. To this union, two children were born, Marquita and Brian. John received his education in the Greensboro public schools. After graduating from James B. Dudley High, he enrolled in A&T State University, graduating with a B.S. degree in biological sciences and a minor in chemistry. Upon graduating, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force, where he served his country for 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined the Guilford Country Environmental Health Division of the Guilford County Health Department, where he served as a health inspector for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Gwendolyn White, and brother Walter White. Left to cherish his memory are daughter Marquita Hunter (Clarence), son Brian White (Shawn), granddaughters Loren and Kaylen (Jeffrey), brothers Weldon and Gurney White, sisters-in-law Dorothy Williams, Joyce Harris and Barbara Harris, brothers-in-law Jerry Watkins and Marvin Starks, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was a lifelong member. Visitation prior to service at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church and the American Cancer Society.
