John Charles DeBerry was born in Troy, NC on November 30, 1963 to the late Daniel DeBerry and Betty Vera White, Stepfather, Al White. John attended West Montgomery High School from which he graduated in 1982. After moving to Greensboro John met his life partner, Fonda Elliott, and began to embark upon building a life together until his death on February 3, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by his family. John had a love for race cars and he was a die hard Carolina Panthers fan. He was a handyman for all of those in need. There was never a job, big or small, that he wouldn't tackle when called upon to help. John was soft spoken, easy going and what some one consider a gentle giant. He also loved spending time with his extended family never demanding anything just enjoyed being in the midst. He is survived by his wife, Fonda DeBerry and their daughter, Krisa DeBerry, Vanessa DeBerry (mother) of Albe Marle, NC, his brothers, Michael Nicholson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Terry D. Nicholson (Helen) of Mr.Gilead, NC, Kevin S. DeBerry (Mary) of Mt. Gilead, NC, Daniel R. DeBerry ( Shenita) of Indian Trail, NC, Makaius Funderburk of Monroe, NC, stepbrother, Terry Arnold (Aubrey) of Troy, NC, sisters-in-law, Denise Smith (Richard), Krendy Brown (Byron), Lisa Perkins (Reginald), Leslie Newman (John), brothers-in-law, Edward Elliott, Isaac Elliott, Craig Elliott, Connie Elliott, Norman Elliott (Gloria) and Damon Elliott and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A service honoring his life will be held Thursday February , 2020 at Calvary Christian Center; 369 Air Harbor Rd. Greensboro, NC. Service will begin at 1pm.
