Joe Turner Williams, son of the late Reuben Williams and Mary Belle Freeman Williams was born on December 15, 1933 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. He departed this life on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Wesley Long Hospital at the age of 86. Joe accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of St. James Baptist Church of Greensboro, NC. After many years of labor, he retired from the Lorrilard Tobacco Factory. Joe enjoyed life. He was fascinated by the numbers game and played often. He loved fidgeting with all types of gadgets, and especially liked watching his Santa figurine dance to the James Brown hit, "I feel good.""good." One of his other great pastimes was watching old westerns. Joe was 120 percent male whose emotions and love for his family ran deep. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by three sons, Joezell Williams, Rodney Williams, and Michael Williams; eight brothers, Otis Preston, Claude, Bonnie, Tommy Floyd, Willie Rufus, Wilbert, Roosevelt and Bennie Lovette Williams; three sisters, Rosemary Clemons, Mattie J. Roberts and Maebelle Ruff. Left to cherish his memory are sons, Lorenzo Williams of Detroit, MI, Durand Williams (Ann) of Charlotte, NC, and Ronnie T. Williams, Sr. (Tonia) of Creedmoor, NC; 27 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A service honoring his life will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E. Market St. Greensboro, NC. Visitation will begin at 1pm with service following at 1:30pm. Internment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
