Joan Blondell Exum Owens affectionately known as Blondie departed this life and entered eternal life on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at the Greenhaven Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 23, 1944 in Tarboro, NC to the late Charles & Roberta Exum. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles & Roberta Exum, Sisters: Leora McCoy, Cindory Juanita Cheek, Mabel Dobson, Joyce Shoffner, Brother: Charles Exum Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories: Husband, John Owens Sr. 55 years of marriage. She was most proud of her greatest accomplishments of their five children: Vicki Owens, Regina Owens, Kimberly (Felix) Whitsett, John Owens Jr., Kevin Owens; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; Brother: Robert Earl (Vernestine)Exum; Sister: Jerlie Mae McPhaul and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Joan graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1962 and later attended Guilford Technical Community College where she took computer classes for seniors. In 1975, she started her working career at Sears Cooperation and then retired from Graphic Packaging Company on December 4, 2008 positioned as a Quality Control Specialist. She was a member of Holy Temple United Holiness Church. To have known Joan was to love her. She was known and complimented by her beautiful eyes. Her passion was cooking. She loved to feed people and bake cakes. She loved her quality time with her grandchildren who she tried to give them the world. She loved hosting cookouts and inviting family & friends. Her favorite perfume was 'Faraway' from Avon. She was a joy to be around, tremendously loved and will be truly missed but never forgotten.
