On Friday, January 12, 2018, Jewell our beloved, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, peacefully took flight from this life to go home with God. Jewell Brown Massey was born April 20, 1930. She was born to the late, Robert Brown and Inass Sides Brown. Jewell was educated in Albemarle, NC. She left North Carolina in her early twenties, moving to Baltimore Maryland, as a Homemaker. Jewell moved back to Greensboro to help raise her nieces and nephews, also to help tend to her elderly mother. Jewell never had children of her own, but with numerous nieces and nephews raised, she thought of them as her own, and they thought of her as a second mother. Jewell was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for many years. She was a babysitter in her community for many children, and developed a love for caring for children and helping people. She enjoyed cooking, babysitting, and spending time with her family. She was a very outspoken, and a unique person. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Brown and Inass Sides Brown; and brothers: James, and Leonard Brown. Jewell Massey Brown leaves to cherish the memories of her life, sister: Carolyn Weldon; sister-in-law: Clarie Brown; nieces: Sylvia Bailey, Jane Alston (George), Tracey Carrington, Wanda Brown, and Sydney McGee; nephews: Steve Weldon, Antonio Weldon, Cornell Brown, Nicholas Bailey, Anwar Alston, Edmund Couser, Christopher Alston, Quinton Bass, Marsel Hurdle; many more nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Auntie, from your nieces and nephews, we would like to say a job well done. A service honoring her life will be held at the Perry J. Brown Funeral Home Chapel; 909 East Market Street, Greensboro, North Carolina 27401 on Saturday, January 20, 2018. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm.
