Obituary

Jennette Moore Silverthorne entered into eternal rest on August 8, 2019 at 3:03pm at her home in Oak Ridge, NC after a brief illness. Born to Robert and Sophie Moore, she was raised in Blounts Creek, NC. Her childhood church was St. Anna Missionary Baptist Church. The youngest of 7 children, she graduated from St. Augustine College in Raleigh, NC with a degree in Medical Technology in 1956. She would later that year move to New York City. In that same year, on July 21st, she married Nathaniel Silverthorne. Their union produced four children: Gregory, Jeffrey, Sofia Lynn, and Nathaniel Jr. Their first home was in the Queen's borough of New York City, in St. Albans, NY. While she was the first in her family to earn a college degree, she and her husband saw that all their children graduated from college debt-free. She moved to Long Island, Great Neck, NY in 1966 with her husband and two oldest children. The town's highly-regarded public education was a key reason she and her husband chose to move to Great Neck. She was an active member of St. Paul AME Zion Church in that town. She worked at a Long Island hospital for 32 years, retiring in 1989 as an Administrator at the county hospital: Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, NY. After relocating to the South to Oak Ridge, NC she embarked on a second career in real estate. She launched her own real estate company, Carolina Dreams Realty in Greensboro, NC. As the real estate market softened, she embraced a new part-time endeavor as a volunteer. At the Women's Resource Center in Greensboro, NC she was a well-respected Community Resource Specialist for many years for many women. Her first church, after relocating back to NC as a civil service retiree, was at New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. She and her husband would later join a church fairly close to their home in Oak Ridge. She was an active and beloved member of Oak Ridge First Baptist Church for many years. A Deaconess, she was also an active member of the Missionary and Pastor's Aid ministries of the church. She was an avid supporter of the church's Scholarship Fund as well. She was preceded in death by her Mother (Sophie) and Father (Robert); brothers: Leon, Ed Lee, & Thelmon; and sisters: Robert Ann, Velma, & Josephine. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Nathaniel Silverthorne, Sr.; her sons: Gregory Silverthorne of Greensboro, NC, Jeffrey Silverthorne (Doris) of Kernersville, NC, Nathaniel Silverthorne, Jr. (Jessie) of Silver Spring, MD; her daughter Sofia Lynn Crisp (Jeffrey) of Summerfield NC; her grandchildren: Sydney M. Silverthorne, Jeffrey David Silverthorne, Jordan N. Silverthorne, Jennell S. McIntosh, Noel E. McIntosh, Nathaniel Christian Silverthorne, and Madison R. Silverthorne; her great grandson Shawn M. Silverthorne; Goddaughter Vernita Hill; special young people: Erin and Erica James, Joshua and Jordan Hairston, and Madison Webster; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A service honoring her life will be held Sunday August 11, 2019 at Oak Ridge First Baptist Church; 2445 Oak Ridge Road in Greensboro, NC. Visitation will begin at 2pm with service following at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oak Ridge First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
