Mrs. Janie Lee Burris Reid was born January 16, 1924 in York County, SC. She departed this earthly journey of life to be with her heavenly Father on December 4, 2019 at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation Center with her family by her side. Janie was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Oscar Reid, Sr., her mother Ms. Catherine Ashley, and her father Mr. Arthur Burris. In 1960, she moved her family to Greensboro, NC. Her first employer was the Stotts and she remains connected to this family. Her second employer was the North Carolina Extension Service teaching sewing throughout local communities. Janie was blessed to travel many places some of which none of us have experienced. Janie mothered not only her 9 children but also her grandchildren, godchildren, neighborhood children, and extended family. She loved to cook for family and friends but her passion was baking which brought her much joy. As a lifelong Presbyterian, she joined Saint James Presbyterian Church and remained a faithful member for 59 years. Janie is a member of the Estelle Miller Circle, Inspirational Ensemble, and Presbyterian Women. Precious memories shall forever be cherished by her 9 children; Nancy Rives (Ben) of Jamestown, NC, Wilomenia Reid-Rankin and Oscar Reid, Jr. both of Greensboro, NC, Cathy Propst (Jimmy) of High Point, NC, Vincent Reid (Valerie) of Lutz, FL, Wayne Reid of High Point, NC, Glenice Reid-Harris of Stockbridge, GA, Rhonda Reid of Coral Springs, FL, Keith Reid (Pamela) of Greensboro, NC, special daughter Deborah Squirewell of High Point, NC, 25 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, 2 godchildren Andrea "Vanessa" Wright and David "Chuckie" Spencer, and a host of cousins and friends. A service honoring her life will be held on Wednesday December 11, 2019 at St. James Presbyterian Church; 820 Ross Ave. Greensboro, NC. Visitation will begin at 12pm with service following at 1pm. Internment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery.
