James Herbert 'Herb' Thompson was born January 2, 1948 in Danville, Virginia to Mamie and James Thompson. Herb attended the Guilford County School System and upon graduation, joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Herb served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the 7th Engineering Battalion, Da Nang, South Vietnam. After his discharge from the Marine Corps Herb was employed by Guilford Mills for 28 years before retiring. He was proveeded in death by his Mother and Father, his sister Phyllis Thompson and son Sean Leath. He is survived by his wife Brenda W. Thompson, daughter Michelle Jacobs, grandson James M. Thompson, sister Stephanie Thompson, brothers Lee Royal Thompson all of Greensboro and James Tatun of Tennessee. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A v ery special great nephew 'Meek-Meek' Pierson. Special friends Gerald HYaley, George Blackwell, James Perry and Robert 'Bob' Linton. A memorial service honoring his life will be held in the Cassie Coote-Brown Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E Market St. Greensboro, NC. The service will begin at 1 pm.
