James Hubert Simmons, Jr. (Jay) is the son of James Hubert Simmons, Sr. and the late Barbara Jean Smith. He was born in Washington, DC on November 11, 1972.

Surviving to cherish James's greatest memories are his five children: Brittanee Oliver-Hurdle, Brandee Oliver, Natese Ragland, N'Dia Vines, and Jalynn Simmons. 4 grandchildren: DeShawn Hurdle, Jr Bryson, Karson Hurdle and Rhythm Patterson. Brothers: Paul "Happy" Freeman, Patrick Freeman and one sister: Tonya Harper. Devoted Special Friend: Lora Cubbage and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

James worked as an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Fayetteville State University. Complete Funeral arrangements are still pending. A celebration of his life service will be held in Washington, DC.
