Mitchell, OfficiatingObituaryOn October 12, 2013, James Henry Reeder made a transition from his earthly clothes to his heavenly robe.James Henry Reeder was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Wert Reeder. He was born February 11, 1926 and was the eleventh child of thirteen children. James was raised in Newberry, South Carolina where he attended the local schools.James worked hard all his life and retired from the Guilford Foundry Machine Company. He received several merit awards during his time there. He was a machinist and loved to work with his hands. He would always sayâ?¦ â??a little hard work never hurt anybodyâ?? , and he made sure that he took good care of his family as he took pride in the family circle.James accepted Christ into his life at an early age at Zion Welch Baptist Church, Newberry, South Carolina where his father was the head deacon and his mother was the church clerk. As he got older and moved to Greensboro he found the love of his life and married Esther M. Leak. As they built their lives together and raised three girls he was always making sure that they were active in school as well as in church. He joined Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church under the watchful eye of Dr. Michael A. Frencher (now Bishop) of the A.M.E. Zion connection.James had a green thumb and could grow almost anythingâ?¦.he loved to landscape and he worked his business for many years until he was eighty years old. His love for beautiful lawns, plants and flowers was one of his greatest accomplishments. You could always find him in his yard, or someone elseâ??s yard putting his talent God gave him to manicure things just right.James had a big heart as well as a giving heart, and his love for people and family gatherings was his enjoyment. He was quite the jokester and loved to tell stories about his siblings and what a time they had when he was younger. Even while on dialysis during his last years he never complained and always would say, â??Iâ??m doing just fineâ??â?¦ the Lord promised us three scores and tenâ?¦and he added a little extra spice just for me.â??James leaves to cherish his memories, a dutiful and devoted wife for 62 years, Esther Mae of the home; three daughters: Ojetter (Herbert) Jackson, Vanessa (Jerry) Allred, and Vicki M. Walker; one brother: Johnny (Mattie) Reeder of Augusta, Georgia; one sister: Fannie M. Flicking of Denmark, South Carolina; eight grandchildren: Jerry Allred of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jermaine Allred, Michael (Jana) Reeder, Kevin (Kimberly) Jackson, Derek Allred, Jonathan, Lauren Jackson and Alexis Walker, all of Greensboro; nine great-grandchildren, nieces nephews, and loving church family and friends.
