James Kelly Talton was born on October 21, 1923 to the late Oscar and Hollie Talton in Angier, North Carolina. He attended Shawtown High School in Lillington, North Carolina and he also drove the school bus. James moved to Greensboro to attend A&T College where he was member of the boxing team but before he could finish college he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and obtained the rank of Sargent during his three year tour and was honorably discharged in 1945. James came back to Greensboro after the war where he met the love of his life Marion Davis. They were married in 1948 and were married for nearly 67 years! To this union was born two sons, Ronald Kelly Talton and Kenneth Lee Talton, Kenneth unfortunately died at the age of 6 weeks old. James was employed at Piedmont Natural Gas for 40 years as a utility worker and then worked his way into a Forman position and shop steward in the union when it was only supposed to last as summer job initially. James was a loyal servant of United Institutional Baptist Church for over 50 years where he was inducted as Deacon Emeritus. He also served as church bus driver and security for the church. James departed this life on January 24th peacefully at home in his favorite chair. James was a spirited man with lots of humor and was a husband, father, brother, and uncle to everyone that came in contact with him; he was a "FINE FELLOW" He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Talton Wallace, and Dorothy Elizabeth Talton (infant) and two brothers, William Marion Talton, and Ralph Talton. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Marion Talton, son, Ronald Talton(Greensboro), brother, Moses Talton; Sierra Vista, Arizona; nieces, Yvonne Jones(James), Patricia Dunn, and a host of cousins and friends.
