Mr. James Johnson entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Moses Cone Hospital. James was born in Greensboro, N.C. on June 4, 1949 to the late Leon Johnson and Minnie Neal. He was a graduate of James B. Dudley High school, class of 1967. After graduating, James joined the Marine Corps Institute on January 26, 1970. He received an honorable discharge six years later. James then began his career at Winn Dixie. He worked his way up to assistant store manager and retired after 30 years of dedicated service. James enjoyed working in his yard, tinkering with his car, and traveling. One of his favorite vacation destinations was the beach. He also loved family time and visited with his family and friends often. James met his loving wife, Josephine "Josie", in 1982 and they were married in August of 1988. They celebrated 29 joyous years together. They cherished so many memories together including visiting one of their favorite vacation locales, the Outer Banks of North Carolina. James was preceded in death by his parents, the late Leon Johnson and Minnie Neal, and a son, Michael Tobias Johnson. Two brothers; Fletcher Johnson and Wesley Richardson, and two sisters; Frances Johnson and Beverly Monroe. James leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Josephine "Josie" Johnson, and a daughter, Monica Thais Johnson, both of Greensboro, N.C. Three sisters; Ruthie Rodgers (Charlie) and Felicia Richardson (William), both of Greensboro, N.C., and Rebecca Burch of Spartanburg, S.C. Two brothers; Howard Richardson (Linda) and Donald Richardson, both of Greensboro, N.C. Two granddaughters; Jamyah Johnson and Anna-Louise Johnson, and two grandsons; Jacori Johnson and Jordyn Coley. James also leaves a special niece, Jasmine Turner-Davis (Kevin) of Reidsville, N.C. and a host of relatives and friends.
A service honoring his life will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at New Zion Baptist Church; 408 MLK Jr. Dr. Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12 pm. The interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery; 3901 Forest Lawn Dr. Greensboro, NC.
