James "Tojo" Wallace Crews, son of the late Harry Longworth and Mazie Wallington Crews, was born September 24, 1942, in Guilford County, North Carolina. James attended the public school system of Guilford County and was a 1960 graduate of Laughlin High School, Summerfield, NC. He was a dedicated, dependable and loyal employee for over forty (40) years. In early years, he worked at Sears and Roebuck Company for thirty-two (32) years and later retired from Miller Brewing Company after twelve (12) years of service. James was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Annie Crews Foy; and brother: Harry Sherman Crews. James leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife: Nellie George Crews of the home; son: James H. Cheek (Sheryl) of Greensboro; daughter: Tammy R. Cheek of the home; grandchildren: Jasmine and Jada Cheek of Greensboro; godchildren: Cameron Bennerman and Yannal Rankin; sisters: Marie Crews Harris of Greensboro; Pauline Crews Rankin Irving of Greensboro; Caron Crews Jones (TJ) of Walkertown, NC and Juanita Crews Scales of Greensboro; brothers-in-law: Stuart George of High Point, NC, and James (Audrey) George of Greensboro; sisters-in-law: Betty G. Rainey of Greensboro and Delores (Rett) Butler of Winston-Salem, NC; nieces: Dana Rochelle Crews, Donna McCoy, Lori Ann Harris, Andree Rankin, and Annette Hairston; nephews: Harry Willard Crews, Aaron Hairston, Timothy Hairston, Kelvin Harris and Charles Coote, Jr.; best friend: Eddie Graves of Greensboro; special friends: Pamela Day and Sandra Johnson, and a host of other relatives and friends.A service honoring his life will be held at the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel; 909 East Market Street, Greensboro, NC 27401 on Tuesday, February 13, 18. The visitation will begin at 12:00 pm and the service will follow at 12:30 pm.
