Obituary

James Benter Adams affectionately known as "J.B." was born on May 15, 1938 in Lauren County, South Carolina to the late Dan and Lucinda Bartee Adams. He transitioned from this life on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital. He graduated from Bell Street High School in 1956 and began to utilize his trades. After moving to Greensboro, North Carolina, J.B. was employed at numerous companies. He worked for Woolworth Department Store, and later North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. After thirty (30) years of service with Guilford Mills, James retired and enjoyed relaxing for a few years. He later would venture back to the work force. He was a "First Student" bus rider attendee for disabled children for ten (10) years, and retired again. J.B was a faithful and committed lifetime member of the fraternal organization Khalif Temple #144 over fifty (50) years, which was affiliated with the Prince Hall Masons. James was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and two brothers: Perry Adams (Amelia); and Larry Adams; three (3) sisters: Pearl Adams Floyd; Corrine Adams Byrd (Sydney); and Odessa Adams Rice. J.B leaves two cherish his memories: sons: Ralph Suber (Bertha) of Joanna, South Carolina; Vada Suber (Frances) of Newberry, South Carolina, and daughter: Felisa Suber of Joanna, South Carolina; three (3) grandchildren and five (5) great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Shriner brothers. Also, a very special and devoted friend, Hazel D. Long of Greensboro, North Carolina. A celebration of life will be held at Piedmont Presbyterian Church; 6411 Jefferson Davis Road, Mountville, South Carolina 29370 on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the service will follow at 1:30 pm. The burial will take place following the service at the church cemetery.
