Obituary

Jacqueline (Jackie) Veronica McDonald Williams died peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2015.A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at St. James Presbyterian Church, 820 Ross Avenue, Greensboro, NC with the Reverend Dr. Diane Givens Moffett officiating.Jackie was born and reared in Belmont, NC to the late Lucy and James Thomas McDonald. She married Andrew W. Williams on December 24, 1943. In 1949, she and Andrew settled in Greensboro. In the 1950's, Jackie and Andrew along with their three children, Joe, Veronica and Keith moved to Indonesia for several years.After returning to Greensboro, she went on to receive her undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from North Carolina A&T State University. Jackie taught world history at Dudley High School. After the public schools were integrated, she became one of the first African American teachers to accept an assignment at Grimsley High School where she taught until retirement.In 2005, Jackie moved to the Well-Spring Retirement Community. She loved being a resident of the Well-Spring Community. The care that Jackie received at Well-Spring added quality and meaning to a life well lived.A lover of travel and art, Jackie visited every continent and saw the great wonders of the world. She enjoyed sports, entertaining, cooking, sewing, gardening, playing cards and volunteering in the community. Jackie was a long time member of Saint James Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Lucy Laney Circle. Jackie was a proud golden life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.Jackie is survived by her three children; Attorney Joseph Andrew Williams (Georgia), Jacqueline Veronica Williams Biggins (Franklin) and Warren Keith Williams (Regina); four grandchildren, Dawn Elizabeth Biggins, Kenzie Madelyn Biggins, Joseph Andrew Williams, II and Andria Williams Patterson (Cory) along with two great grandchildren, Madeleine Emmanuel Patterson and Joanna Akosua Browne Williams.In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to the International Civil Rights Center & Museum, 134 S. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.Memorial arrangements are entrusted to Perry J. Brown Funeral Home.
