Isaiah â??Woodyâ?? Trice passed away at 8:30 pm on Saturday August 19, 2017 at Beacon Place Hospice after a long battle with Kidney Disease. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia (Johnson) Trice, his daughter Lillian (Trice) Francis and son-in-law Eric Francis; his son Mitchell Trice and daughter-in-law Stephanie Trice, grandchildren Christie Trice, Jeremy Butler, Jessica Butler, Nicolas Trice, Xander Trice, Elisha Francis, Kennedy Trice, great-grandchildren Amy Lynn and Tyler Lewandowski, and many nephews, nieces, extended family and close friends. Isaiah was born and raised in Joliet, the son of Cleotha and Alice Trice. His childhood nickname was â??Woodyâ?? and he continued to use it throughout his life. Woody attended Joliet Township Highschool where he excelled and both sports and academics. He ran track, was all-conference football and Illinois state heavyweight wresting champion. He received a football scholarship to University of Denver and after completing his freshman year he decided to enter the military. Woody joined the US Army in 1954 and was stationed in Germany at Landstuhl medical hospital. After completing his service, he left the military with rank of Specialist. Woody attended the University of Illinois on the GI Bill and received a bachelor of science in physical education. It was here that he met and married Patricia Johnson. Woody obtained a masters degree in physical education from the University of Colorado and a PhD in exercise physiology from Florida State University. During the summers form 1962-1965 Woody and Pat set off across company to Yosemite National Park where Woody was a park ranger. They then settled in Greensboro, NC until 1970, until they moved to Tampa, FL where Woody was a professor at University of South Florida from 1970 until 1992. Following his retirement from teaching, he completed a 3 year research fellowship on aging at Tufts University in Boston. Woody was an avid runner and completed 6 marathons and numerous 10Ks. He often would run or bike to work, run with his class and then run or bike home. He also served as exercise physiologist and consultant to the dancers/performers at Busch Gardens. Woody enjoyed trains and after retirement created an HO grade model train town as his hobby. Memorial service and visitation will be held at noon on Thursday August 24th Providence Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Piedmont. A service honoring his life will be held at Providence Baptist Church; 1106 Tuscaloosa St, Greensboro, NC 27406 on Thursday, August 24, 2017 beginning at 12:00 pm.
