Obituary

Isaiah "Ike" Cantey was born on May 6, 1938 to the late Daniel and Grace White Cantey. He departed this life for his heavenly home on December 29, 2018. He was preceded in death by his twin sisters: Ruth and Ruby Cantey, and daughter: Cheryl Hasane.

Ike was a member of Mount Zion United Church of God where he was a member of the Gospel Choir and the Men of Destiny, until his health failed. He was also a member of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church Male Chorus and Gospel Choirs, the John Silver Quartet and the Wells Singers. He loved to sing, and had a great voice.

Ike graduated from Lutheran High School. Over the years, he worked at L. Richardson Hospital, Lorillard Tobacco Company, DTS Trucking Company, Community Funeral Home, Hargett Funeral Home and Perry J. Brown Funeral Home, where he worked for fifty-eight (58) years—he was a loyal, faithful and punctual employee. He loved to fish, and was a sharp dresser. Isaiah was known by all who knew him for his wonderful sense of humor and his quick wit.

Ike is survived by his loving wife of twenty (24) years, Daphne Cantey; son: Michael Cantey; five (5) grandchildren; six (6) great-grandchildren; uncle: Charles White (Helen); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other Family members and friends. A service honoring his life will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Mt. Zion United Church of God; 705 Banner Ave. Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 10:30 am and the service will follow at 11 am. The interment will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N O'Henry Blvd. Greensboro, NC.
