Mrs. Inez Morris was born in Eufau la, Alabama, on April 16, 1917, to the late Edreana Hill and Will Johnson. She departed this life on January 19, 2012, at the Piedmont Crossing Retirement Center in Thomasville, North Carolina. Inez was educated in the public schools of Barbour County, Alabama. She continued her education at Albany (GA) State College, where she received a B.S.in elementary education.She taught in several school districts in Alabama and Georgia- finally for more than twenty years in the Muscogee County (Columbus, Georgia) School District. In Muscogee County, for most of her time, she taught at Claflin Elementary School. She reti red in 1975 while teaching at South Columbus Elementary School. As a child, she was baptized at Rocky Mt. Baptist Church in Eufaula. When she moved to Columbus, she joined Beth Salem Presbyterian Church, where she was very active. She was an Elder and church treasu rer, and she served for several years as the director of Vacation Bible School and a Sunday School teacher. She was active with the Presbyterian Women.Following her retirement, she volunteered at the Columbus, Georgia, Medical Center and was active with the American Association of University Women (AAUW). She also devoted her time to her family, especially to caring for her mother and later her sister, Martha Thomas. For the last two and a half years, she and Martha were roommates at Piedmont Crossing, and they thoroughly enjoyed being together as they had been as young girls. Martha preceded her in death on December 16, 2011. Inez was a mother's mother, a sister's sister and a daughter's daughter. She cared deeply for her family and was very giving to them and friends.In 2007, after a fal l, she re located to the nursing care unit of Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community in Thomasville, NC. The staff there took wonderful care of her. The nursing assistants made her feel special and very much loved. All of the nurses, chaplains, rehabilitation and recreational staff were very compassionate. The medical staff of ACT and Hospice of Davidson County, North Carolina, also provided her excellent care. The family deeply appreciates all of her caregivers.Her marriage to Hugo Williams ended in divorce. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Morris, and her daughter, Gloria Williams Brent. She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her daughter, Linda Morris Johnson (George) of Greensboro, NC, her grandson, William Robert Johnson of Washington, D.C., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
