Ida J. 'Mother' Griffin went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 11 following a brief illness. Ida was born February 4, 1938 to the late Mary Lee and Welling Jackson, Sr. A celebration of life service will be held in her honor on Tuesday, June 16 at her church, Shalom Community Christian Church, 2227 Pinecroft Rd, Greensboro. Visitation will start at 11:30 a.m., with the service beginning at 12 p.m. 'Mother' was born in Timmonsville, SC but spend most of her life in Greensboro. She was a Master Gardener and loved spending time growing beautiful flowers and wonderful gardens. You could always find her with a pet or two in her lap and a beautiful smile on her face. She was deeply committed to serving and helping others and enriching the lives of those around her. She worked as a accountant at APCO Freight, Inc. until her illness. She will be deeply missed by all.Family members left to cherish her memory include her husband, Leonard Griffin, Sr; her children, Raymond (Angela) Crawford, Sr., and Dionne (Eric) Cole; stepsons Leonard (April) Griffin, Jr., Geoff (Letha) Griffin, and Kevin (Sabrina) Griffin; her second mom, Arleather Lash; her sister Joyce J. Johnson; her brothers Welling (Elizabeth) Jackson, Jr., Herbert (Ojetta) Jackson, David (Joyce) Jackson, Timothy Jackson, and Michael Jackson. In honor of her memory, the Ida J. Griffin Scholarship Fund has been established to provide scholarships for elementary and middle school students to attend the Summer Academic and Enrichment Camp held at Shalom.
