Obituary

Hudson Washington Griffin III was welcomed into this world on April 8, 1966. He was born on the plains of the Dakotas Black Hill at Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City, South Dakota. His mother is Silva Madkins Griffin. Also present for the birth was his fraternal grandmother, Tina Griffin. His father Lieutenant Hudson Jr. had been deployed to Guam to support the war effort in Southeast Asia.

Hudson's early life was filled with activities and images of military life at Ellsworth AFB, High Wycombe Air Station (England), Weathersfield RAFB (England), and Maxwell AFB, Alabama. While at Maxwell, he began his education at the elementary school on base. His early development included interest in fishing, little league softball and the Boy Scout Program. After the family transitioned to civilian life in the mid 1970's in Houston (TX), Hudson attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School during his elementary school years. Later, he enrolled in Welch Middle School where he continued his educational and social development. He excelled in academics and was recognized for his achievements. Hudson was awarded the American Legion Medal, a national academic achievement award, not only for scholastic achievements, but also for recipients who demonstrate strong qualities of character and good citizenship.

After middle school, Hudson attended the High School for Health Professions for three years in Houston. When the family moved to Dallas, he continued his studies at the Dallas version of the health professions school. Upon graduating from the Dallas High School for Health Professions, he was awarded a Presidential Scholarship and attended Texas A & M University. While in Dallas, he continued with the Boy Scouts Program. Hudson's efforts culminated with being awarded the Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America.

As a Texas A&M Aggie, Hudson enrolled in the bio-science program. He excelled in his academics and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree, in his academics and graduated with a Bachelor of Biology. During this time at Texas A&M, he became a member of the Triangle Fraternity. For two years, worked in as a lab assistant in a laboratory working with patients requiring state of art regenerative services with new technology.

Hudson became a Christian at an early age and was baptized at the Brentwood Baptist Church. He was a faithful member of the church throughout his stay in the Houston area.

Following graduation from Texas A&M, Hudson was employed with OxyChem, a petrochemical company. During this period, he married his college sweetheart Lori Ann Middleton. They became members of the North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship, in Richardson (TX), where they were active with the middle school program and the adult choir. Upon leaving Dallas, they relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina.

Hudson became employed with AT&T, and then he and Lori established a business. The couple became self-employed and co-founders with Malcom Tyler of IT Training & Solutions, Inc., a computer software training company. Later, their business expanded to include virtual online training to various companies' employees throughout the United States, Canada, and in Europe and Asia.

Hudson personally traveled to client training sites in Mexico, Amsterdam, Italy, and Spain. He traveled also throughout the United States to various company sites providing software training to employees. He thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and what he did professionally.

One of Hudson's passions was public speaking which he was a member of two Toastmasters' clubs, Greensboro Toastmasters and Mprovmasters Toastmasters. He was introduced to the organization when he first arrived in Greensboro some 20 years ago. Hudson served as Club President, Area Governor, and a founding member of Mprovmasters club. He helped sustain these local clubs by providing leadership and commitment to build their membership. He was awarded numerous awards and obtained the highest designation within the organization, Distinguish Toastmaster (DTM). Hudson's Toastmasters' activities also support his poetry and local stand-up comedy endeavors. Hudson had a delightful sense of humor to everyone except his sister. But she got it.

His Christian faith flourished when he came to Greensboro. He became a member of the Grace Community Church working in various programs and organizations. Hudson became an Elder and was a part of the Communion team and Prayer team. He enjoyed serving in the Church, as well as, being Discussion Leader and Children Leader for Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), an international in-depth Bible Study group.

With all his sickness, Hudson was a faithful husband, son, brother, father to a foster child and friend to many. He fought through it all and continued to work. He worked from home as long as possible. His illness didn't deter him from his church efforts. He is remembered for his constant endeavors and bringing joy to everyone he meets. His was "a good and faithful servant."

Hudson was a devote Star Wars fan since the first movie released in 1977. And before his passing, he received the Jedi Code (with a twist): There is no emotion, there is peace; there is no ignorance, the is knowledge, there is no passion, there is serenity; there is not chaos, there is harmony, there is no death, there is the eternal love of God that lives forever.

Cherishing Hudson's memory are his wife of 30 years Lori Ann Griffin, parents Hudson Jr and Silva Madkins Griffin, sister Regena Nicole Griffin, brother-in-law Trent Dwayne Middleton, aunt Eva Sue Saddler, cousins Mia Sunee Saddler and Robin Demetra Clemons, uncle Jonathan Griffin, cousins Jonathan Jr and Jason Griffin, cousin Marquis Griffin, and a host of relatives and friends.

Hudson's Home Going Memorial Service will be at noon (12:00pm EST), on Saturday, July 29th, at Grace Community Church on Gate City Blvd in Greensboro, NC.
