Obituary

Herman Peoples was the oldest of seven children born on February 28, 1930 to the late Earl Peoples and Mary Peoples in St. Louis, Missouri. He was called to eternal rest on August 31, 2018 at the age of 88.

On May 18, 1939 Herman accepted Christ as his Savior at Prospect Hill Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO under Reverend Simson R. Rice. While a member of Prospect Hill he sang in the choir and in a quartet.

Herman joined the Army as a young man and went on to serve 27 years in the military with the majority of his time stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC as part of the 82nd Airborne Division. He went on to serve honorably in the Korean and Vietnam Wars receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart among other commendations. After retiring from the Army Herman went on to work for the US Postal Service where he worked for 18 more years retiring in 1992.

In 1962 Herman married Daphine Holden on June 30th at her family's farm in Wendell, NC. They were married for 56 years. Herman and Daphine have one daughter Katrina Peoples.

With his love for the Armed Services Herman was one of the last original members of his beloved Armed Forces Retirees Club, Inc. Through the AFRC Herman and other retired military personnel with similar backgrounds and interests supported humanitarian, civic, and social engagements in the community. At the AFRC Herman served in many roles namely as past Club Manager, and Commander.

Herman continued to stay active after his retirement by driving buses for schoolchildren, delivering newspapers, and serving with Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed hosting family and friends at his home where he hosted an annual Thanksgiving feast for more than 40 years. And if he was not in the kitchen cooking then you could find him in his yard with the lawn mower as he kept an immaculate yard. In his leisure time he enjoyed watching sports especially his favorite hometown baseball team the St. Louis Cardinals. Always a friend you could call on for advice or assistance he will be missed for his generosity and hard joking nature.
