Mr. Henry E. Johnson died on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. He was born on December 23, 1936, in Greenville, South Carolina, to George Johnson and Lydia Dixon Johnson. After attending the public schools of Greenville, South Carolina, including Sterling High School, Henry graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, with degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. An honorable tour of duty in the United States Air Force was followed by distinguished careers in accounting, and in sales. His service as Controller of Greensboro Manufactoring Company preceded careers at North Carolina A & T State University and Circuit City Stores, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Henry is, and will be, remembered for his cooking skills. Family, friends, and loved-ones in every quadrant of the country have been treated to his savory entrees and desserts. Similarly, his talents in working with numbers led to a peripheral career in tax preparations and bookkeeping. In addition to his those skills and talents, he also had competitive loves for golf, pinochle, bid whist, and helping friends and church members. His favorite song was, 'Amazing Grace.' He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where he served on the Steward Board and the Missionary Society and was instrumental in founding Bethel's Drama Ministry. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sandra Palmer, and step-daughter Lula Mae Woodson. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Juanita Jamison Johnson, of the home; daughter, Lydia Joye Pressley ( James 'Hank' ); step-daughter Deborah Woodson-Heck ( Gunther ); Brother in law Anthony Palmer, and a host of neices, nephews, cousins- in-law and friends.. A service honoring the life of Mr. Johnson will take place on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Bethel AME Church; 200 N. Regan Street, Greensboro, North Carolina 27401. The service will begin at 10:00 am, and the service will follow at 10:30 am. The interment will be held at the Salisbury National Cemetery, in Salisbury, North Carolina.
