On December 16, 2016 God called home Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Lilly Hayes. She was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Lilly. Helen was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on April 2, 1936. She attended public schools here in Greensboro and was a proud graduate of Dudley High School. Helen was a life-long member of St. James Baptist Church where her grandfather, Rev. C.W. McBroom, once pastored. Helen was presided in death by her husband, parents, beloved grandmother, Charlotte McBroom, only son, Willie, Jr. as well as her brother James, Jr. and sister Pauline Vample. She leaves to cherish her memory four devoted daughters Carol Reaves (Junious), Mary Jackson (John), Denise Suffern (Dwayne), and Paula Johnson (Walter); two endeared grandsons Rayshawn and Kyle Hayes whom she had a hand in raising as true gentlemen; close sisters Rev. Dr. Eva Ratliff and Geraldine Payne and one loving brother Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lilly all of Greensboro. Two sister-in-laws, one brother–in-law and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews who adored her. The family will receive friends at 11:30 am prior to the 12 p.m. homegoing service on Friday, December 23, 2016 at St. James Baptist Church, 536 W. Florida Street, Greensboro, NC 27406.
