Hattie Wadsworth Hall was born to Preston G. and Alice Harrison Hall on April 25, 1917 in Winnsboro, SC. She was preceded in death by sisters: Fannie Hall Smithers of Smithfield, VA and Elizabeth Hall Boyd of New York. She attended school in Fairfield County in Winnsboro. She relocated to Greensboro, NC after the death of her brother-in-law to live with her sister, Alberta. Hattie was baptized when she was twelve years of age at Old White Oak Baptist Church in Winnsboro, SC. Reverend H. W. Anderson was pastor. In New York, she became a member of Bethel Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend L. H. Wade. She remained a member of Bethel for thirty (33) years. While there she was a member of the Pastor's Aide Club and Missionaries. She supported the American Bible Society—and purchased Bibles to send overseas. Hattie later moved to White Plains, NY to further her education. She was trained at the Infant and child Care Institute, and received certification to care for children. Her work allowed her to fulfill a desire to travel. Bus trips and travel with the families that she worked for allowed her to see many places: Hollywood, California; Miami, Florida and Orlando, Florida where she had a visit to Disney World. She also travelled to Canada and other cities and states. She worked for more than fifteen (15) families during her career of caring for children. She also worked at a hospital in West Chester County through Total Care Nursing Association. Hattie, having remained single all of her life, developed many hobbies. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. As a result of traveling with her employers, she was able to have some golf lessons and to meet Eldridge Cleaver, Bob Steward, Fred Sanford and Mahalia Jackson. Hattie retired and returned to Greensboro to be with her sister. She became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and served as a faithful member for many years. She was a dedicated member of the old Adult Sunday School Class where her love for God was shared.A service honoring her life will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church; 1301 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro, North Carolina 27406 on Friday, February 17, 2017. The visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 11:30 am. The interment will take place following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N Ohenry Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27405. The Order of The Eastern Star will hold a special ceremony on Thursday, February 16, 2017 between 6:30 pm-7:30 pm.
