Mrs. Gwendolyn Brown passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
Gwendolyn S. Brown, affectionately known as "Big Gwen", daughter of the late Christine B. Galloway and Joseph Shipman, Sr., was born March 8, 1938, in Greensboro, North Carolina. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Shipman, Jr.
She attended public schools in Greensboro and graduated from Durham Business College in 1958. She began her professional career working for Western Electric, then later with the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Agency, in Washington D.C. She retired after over thirty-five years of government service, before moving back to Greensboro. Her family and friends loved spending time with her. She loved football and was a loyal fan of the Washington Commanders (Redskins) and the North Carolina Panthers. If she was not watching football, she would enjoy watching game shows, HGTV or reading a good book.
Gwen also loved children and supported many in her own unique way. Sharing encouraging words or small tokens of her love and support. She was a supporter of Urban Ministry donating grocery gift baskets during the holiday season. She considered the joy of giving a reward. Gwen had a huge heart.
