Obituary

Gloria Jean Fisher was born in New Bern, North Carolina on August 7, 1949 to Ernest George Fisher, Sr., and Mary Hill Fisher. She peacefully transitioned to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 19, 2019 at Beacon Place.

Gloria was raised in New Bern and was blessed to be raised by loving parents and maternal grand and great parents. She received her early education through the New Bern City School System at West Street Elementary School. She graduated from J. T. Barber High School as a proud member of the class of 1967. At Barber, she was a member of the Tri Hi Y and was president of the Library Club. She attended North Carolina Central University in Durham and would later attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she majored in Business Administration.

As a child, Gloria was a member of and baptized at St. Stephens Free Will Baptist Church in New Bern. She moved to Greensboro in 1980 and soon afterwards, joined Trinity AME Zion Church where she was an active member until her health failed. At Trinity, Gloria was president of the August Calendar Club, the Daughters of Conference, Choir Parents Guild, staff of the Triune Galaxy Newsletter, the Pastorâ??s Aid, and walked the Crop Walk for many years. She truly enjoyed being at Trinity and participating in the various ministries over the years.

Gloria was an administrative assistant for most of her employment. She worked for Texfi, Inc., of New Bern, Hewlett Packard in Greensboro, Ellis Home Furnishings of Maryland in High Point, and retired from North Carolina A&T State University in 2013.

She enjoyed science fiction shows and movies, traveling, detective shows, and being with her family.

She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Ernest Fisher, Jr., William Earl Hill, Herbert Allen White, Victor Fisher, and sister Juanita F. Taylor. Those whom she leaves to cherish her life are siblings Gerry Fisher (Margie) of Raleigh, NC, Ron Fisher (Wanda) of Winston-Salem, NC, Shirley Armstrong (Ronnie) of Greensboro, NC, Brenda Williams (Alexander) of New Bern, NC, and David Fisher (Semoine) of Greensboro, NC, two loving aunts Carrie Pritchard of Brooklyn, New York, and Anna Fisher of Garner, NC, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A service honoring the life of Gloria Fisher will be held at Trinity AME Zion Church; 631 E Florida St, Greensboro, NC 27406 on Wednesday, June 26, 2019. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. The interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery; 2200 E Rose St, New Bern, NC 28560 on Thursday, June 27, 2019.
