IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glencie
Brown
March 23, 1947 – August 4, 2022
On the morning of August 4, 2022, Glencie Merlene Clarke Brown, affectionately known as "G" departed from this earthly life to her heavenly home while at Cone Health Wesley Long Hospital. Glencie was born on March 23, 1947, and was the only child of the late Sylvester Clarke and Earline Handon Clarke. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by William Clifton Brown, her beloved husband of 38 years. Glencie was born in Beaufort County, North Carolina but was raised in Guilford County; Greensboro, NC. She was educated in the NC public school system, graduating from Walter Hines Page High School in 1965. She and eight other African American students were the first to integrate public schools in Greensboro, NC. Glencie continued her education and graduated from West Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Finance. While at school, she was elected Miss West Virginia State and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In addition, Glencie was one of the first students accepted at Howard University's Community Development/Urban Planning MBA program.
Glencie had a penchant for Chinese food and never hesitated to send family and friends for take-out. She also loved to sing; however, not many appreciated her off-key serenades. She also loved card games and played them well. She usually won and gloated for days. Glencie will also be remembered for her generous gifts to family and friends.
Glencie leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Teishma Brown, stepchildren; Clifton Jr and Felecia Brown, her childhood friend/sister, Patsy Goodwin, cousins and friends.
A public viewing will be held on Friday 12 pm-5pm and on Saturday 8 am-11:30 am at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 1pm Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
