Gilbert Alfonzo Waddell transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, February 26, 2016. He was born October 19, 1933 to the late Alfred H. Waddell and Bessie Johnston Waddell. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sarah Foushee, Armetta Keith, Estelle Tatum, Mabel Hockaday and brother, James Chester Waddell.Gilbert graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1953 and attended NC A&T. He was in the US Marine Corps for 3 years and later worked for the US Postal Service for 27 years. After retiring from the federal government, he pursued his full time passion of appliance repair.He was an active member of Union Memorial UMC and involved in numerous committees.Gilbert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cora Horton Waddell; three daughters, Gilda Hayes (Darryl), Glenda Waddell and Cori Reid (Tim); one brother, Alfred C. Waddell (Peggie), a special niece that was raised in the childhood home, Ruth Goldston (Henry); grandchildren, RaSheeda Waddell, Andria Hayes, Brenden Sledge, Timothy Reid, Parker Reid and Davis Waddell Reid; and his beloved granddog, Sibie.Services will be held Saturday, March 5. Visitation is at 1:00 pm followed by a service at 1:30 pm at Union Memorial UMC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Johnston-Waddell Scholarship Fund or Union Memorial United Methodist Men.
