Obituary

Gertrude (Trudy) Matilda Chavis received her final promotion on March 9th, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro N.C. and is now resting peacefully with her Lord and Savior. She had been sick for many years and was bedridden the last 15 years. She was born to the late William "Bill" Love and Maxine Brown on May 15th,1950. Trudy was a loving and giving wife, mother and friend that enjoyed life and experienced the happiness of marriage to her husband Ross Chavis, whom she married on 10/20/1964. They remained married for 59 years until her untimely passing.

Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Her early church membership was at Liberty Baptist Church where she come to know Christ. Trudy and Ross moved from Sylva, N.C. to High Point N.C. to raise a family that produced two children, Ursula, and Christopher (Chris). She enjoyed dancing and spending time with friends playing bid wiz or spades. She also enjoyed talking with her longtime friends Janice, about their workdays, children and grandchildren and Alma about the juicy drama on their beloved soap operas. Trudy loved being around people and she could strike up a conversation with anyone. She would always start her salutation by saying "What do you know good?"

After obtaining her G.E.D., Trudy went to work for several hospitals and became an Instructor of Surgical Technology at Guilford County Community College for surgical students. She was also employed at High Point Surgical Center until her health no longer permitted her to do so.

Holidays were always special to her and having her family around opening gifts and celebrating birthdays were most important to her. She always looked forward to seeing her family come together.

Her parents William "Bill" Love and Maxine Brown and her grandparents Janie Mae Whittenburg and McKinnley Whittenburg preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, husband Ross Chavis, daughter Ursula (Robert) of Mebane, and son Christopher (Bethany) of Greensboro. She has two brothers Kenneth and John, and one sister Eleanor "Lynn" Brown - all from Asheville. Henry Atkins of the home, whom she had guardianship and loved dearly. She has eight grandchildren, Kia, Karlton, Jonah, Tyler, Jalen, Kendall, Jason, and Samantha. One great grandchild Isaiah "Zay." A host of nieces, nephews, cousins' other relatives and friends. We would especially like to thank her good friends Alma Brawner and Janice Lomax.

Knowing life's journey is but a vapor, we cherish the time together.

A Funeral Service to honor her will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 12pm in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home 909 East Market Street Greensboro, NC 27401. Visitation 11:30am.

Burial will follow in Carolina Biblical Gardens 5710 Riverdale Drive Jamestown, NC 27282
