IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Georgia Hallie
Caldwell Williams
June 25, 2017
Georgia Hallie Caldwell Williams was born to the late Gilbert and Sarah Caldwell in Columbia, SC on May 31, 1930. She passed away at Pruitthealth-Blythewood in Columbia on June 25, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Georgia matriculated through the South Carolina Public School System and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1947. She attended Talladega College earning her undergraduate degree in 1951. She then went on to Atlanta University where she received her Masterâ??s Degree in 1965. Georgia was always an exceptional student, and the importance of education was evident in her career. She served as an educator and guidance counselor in the South Carolina Public School System for 30 years including the cities of Edgefield, Williston and Ridgeland, South Carolina. While in Ridgeland, she was the first certified full-time guidance counselor in Jasper County and served as test coordinator for Jasper County Public Schools. Not only was her passion for education exemplified in her own life, but it was also shown in the achievements of her children and grandchildren. Education was indeed a priority, and through steadfast encouragement, and sacrifice, Georgia made sure that all of her children had the opportunity to pursue the highest levels of education. On June 30, 1978 Georgia married Jimmie J. Williams. In this union, Georgia gained six children who she loved as her very own, and the love from their marriage and family life triumphed against the odds of a blended family. It was at this time that she relocated to Greensboro, NC, where she became an active member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ. Georgia got so much pleasure from serving at her new church home. She served as church clerk for over 20 years and was also the District Representative for the North Carolina Western Conference of the United Church of Christ. It was her dedication and tireless commitment that earned her the honor of being name Woman of the Year at Emmanuel United Church of Christ in 2006. Georgia was the epitome of service and leadership. This was demonstrated through her work and dedication at her church and in her numerous service organizations which included Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., and The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. In â??true Georgia fashion,â?? at various points in time she served as President of all of these organizations and was a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc... Through her membership in these organizations she was able to motivate young people to always reach for success and achievement. Georgiaâ??s life of service, faith and fortitude personified the type of servanthood that Jesus Christ spoke of in His preaching and teaching to His disciples, especially as seen in Mark 10: 43-45 â??43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.â?? (New Living Translation). She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie J. Williams and son James Andre Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, sons: Norman Caldwell of Columbia, SC and Julian Williams of Washington, DC; daughters: Dr. Rhonda Jones (Richard) of New Rochelle, NY, J.Z. Williams, Esq. (Peter) of Washington, DC, Jeanann Watson (Alfonza) of Bowie, MD, and Judith Rhodes of Washington, DC; 13 grandchildren: Leah Douthard, Dr. Cinese Caldwell, Jeron J. Rhodes, Jon C. Rhodes, Jasmine Smith (Robert), Janae A. Rhodes, Alexandra Williams-Mitchell, Ariana Williams-Mitchell, Matthew P. Mitchell, Regina M. Gill, Renee G. Lewis, Alfonza Watson, III (Tre), and Adrian Watson (Sheila); 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Shirley Williams, a â??special daughter,â?? Estelle T. Young, a Goddaughter, Rhonda Hunt (I.C.), sisters: Esther Carter-Buie and Dr. Bertha Maxwell-Roddey; sister-cousin, Katie Hill and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral will be held at Emmanuel United Church of Christ on Thursday, June 29, 2017. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. The internment and burial will take place at Palmetto Cemetery in Columbia, SC on Friday, June 30, 2017.
