Genesis 2:7a George Leonard Woods Sr., was born on December 27, 1943, to the late Matthew and Elva Watlington Woods. He transitioned on December 6, 2017 at the age of 73. â??I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.' John 10:10b George attended the public schools of Guilford County and was a graduate of James B. Dudley High School, class of 1961. He also attended North Carolina A&T State University. He joined the military and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the United States Postal Service where he was employed for 35 years. He was also employed at Cone Mills and Sears. After retiring for several years, George made the decision to work part time at the Hayes Taylor YMCA, and did so for 10 years. He was an avid bowler and a diehard Aggie and Redskins fan. â??But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.â?? Joshua 24:15 (end) George joined the East White Oak Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. He was passionate about his work for the church and served as a Trustee and the Treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Finance Ministry, Male Chorus, Menâ??s Ministry and the Senior and Gospel Choirs. â??Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.â?? Psalm 128:3 In the spring of 1967 while stationed at Davidsonville, Maryland, he and Deborah became pen pals and this friendship developed into a love that would last 49 years when they were married on June 28, 1968. To this union two children were born, Denise Woods Rich and George Leonard Woods, Jr. (Lennie). Jesus said to her, â??I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. John 11:25-26 He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 8 aunts, 6 uncles and 2 cousins. He leaves to cherish wonderful memories: his wife Deborah of the home; one daughter, Denise (Whitney), Durham, NC; one son, Lennie, of the home; six grandchildren, Christian, Ayeshia, Evelyn, Clarence, Angel, and William; one brother, Henry Simpson (Marie), Washington DC; Mother-in-law, Mamie Young of Annapolis, Maryland; one niece, one nephew, four brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Special thanks to: Dr. Harding and the Cardiac Care at Moses Cone Hospital, Minister and Mrs. Maceo Brooks, and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Smith, for your care, support, friendship, and love during his time of illness. A service honoring his life will be held at East White Oak Baptist Church; 1815 Water Street, Greensboro, NC 27405 on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. The interment will take place following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N Ohenry Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27405.
