Obituary

George was born and raised in Columbia, NC to his parents the late George W. Sykes and Beulah B. Sykes. He went on to settle in Trenton, New Jersey where he met and married his wife, the late Harriet Sykes. To this union, four children were born.George retired from the Mercer County Sanitation Department where he was s driver for more than 30 years. He also enjoyed landscaping and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Trenton, New Jersey. George was very generous, fun-loving, independent with unrestricted kindness to all who came in contact with him. He was a mild-mannered humble man of few words, a neat dresser with eyes that showed what he meant and his loving smile made everything better. He was preceded in death by his three loving daughters; Justina, Nicole, and Yvette Sykes; three brothers, Frank, Ronnie, and Ivory Sykes; three sisters, Carrie and Patricia Sykes, and Rachel Dendy; and second wife, Charolette Harper Sykes. Surviving to cherish his loving memory are his son, George O. Sykes, Jr., eleven grandchildren, all of Trenton, New Jersey; one brother, Don Sykes of Thomasville, North Carolina; four sisters, Dolly Bowser of Columbia, North Carolina, Rosaie Alexander, and Angelia Dunbar, both of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Diane (Keith) Carter of Baltimore, Maryland, along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
