George Herman Lewis, Jr., began his life's journey, Tuesday evening, July 11, 1950, at L. Richardson Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, North Carolina. He was a miracle baby born to parents, Herman George Lewis and Daisy Foxx Lewis, who preceded him in death. After eleven years of marriage and a diagnosis from a Duke University Doctor that his mother would never be able to "bear children," George came into the world, proving that "with God, all things are possible to them who believe!" At an early age, George was dedicated and baptized under the ministry of Reverend M.P. Sawyer and grew up in Trinity AME Zion Church. As a youth, he was very active in Sunday Church School, Vacation Bible School, Chancel Choir, Boy Scouts, and the Usher Board, which he continued to serve in his adult years. George later began to grow in his faith preached his Trial Sermon, July 24, 2005. George attended F.D. Bluford Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High School, and graduated from James B. Dudley High School, Class of 1968. George served in the United States Navy for five years and received an honorable discharge. After his duty in service, George attended King's Business College, and graduated from Shaw University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, in 1985. George enjoyed wrestling and martial arts. He was a Black Belt in both Taekwondo and Ishinryu Karate. He was also a member of St. John's Lodge. In his later adult years, George experience d mental health challenges that prevented him from living independently. However, through it all, he would declare with boldness, "The Lord is blessing me!" "Is The Lord blessing You?" "I am saved!" Are you saved?" George leaves to cherish precious memories a loving sister, Carrie Ada Lewis Laidler, brother-in - law, Walter King Laidler, Jr ; three nieces, Dorcas Laidler Crumbley (husband, Darrian Crumbley, Sr.), Jessica Laidler, and Christa laidler; one nephew, Walter Laidler, III; three grand nephews, Darrian, Jr., Dorian, and Daylen Crumbley ; and many other relatives and friends
A service honoring his life will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church; 631 E Florida St. Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 10:30 am and the service will follow at 11 am.
