Garfield Woodson, affectionately known to friends and family as 'Cookie' passed away on December 31, 2018, at the age of 87 . Garfield was born May 13, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama to Myrtle B. Willis and DeWitt Woodson Sr. As an adult he moved to New York and then eventually to New Jersey, which he called home. While in New Jersey, he worked for Union Carbide as a Mechanic for many years. He then moved on to Xerox, Inc, where he served as a Computer Technician until his retirement in the early 90's. He moved to North Carolina to be closer to his family who cared for him until his death. He is preceded in death by his brothers: Carlisle Woodson and DeWitt Woodson Jr. and son: Melvin Welch. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister: Patricia Brown of Birmingham, AL; his former wife: Dorothy Woodson of Greensboro, NC, his sons: Garfield Woodson Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Arthur Woodson of Greensboro, NC, his daughters: Darcel Woodson Williams of Saganaw, MI, Patricia McCound of Charlotte, NC, Gaye Stevens of Greensboro, NC, Debra Welch of Austin, TX, Marie Meryweathers of Greensboro, NC and a host of grand and great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A service honoring his life will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E Market St. Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12 pm.
