Florence H. Freeman went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Spring Arbor of Greensboro. Born March 21, 1923 in Liberty, NC, she is preceded in death by her husband Galloway Freeman, her Mother, Maggie Brown Hines, her father John Tobe Hines, siblings Ethel Murphy, Thomas Hines, Ora Mae Covington, Willie Williams, Macio Hines, Mack Henry Hines, Ruby G. Hines, Christine Hines, and Annie Sigrest. In 1985, Florence retired from F.W. Woolworth in Greensboro, NC where she worked as a Baker. She was working at the historic F.W. Woolworth during the 1964 Sit-in Movement. Florence was a Life Member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church for over 60 years. While a member there, she belonged to many clubs and organizations, which included the Florence Henderson Usher Board, the March Birthday Club, and the Victoria Richardson Missionary Society. Florence is survived by her children: daughters Barbara H. Sykes (Billy), Audrey H. Thornton (Larry) both of Greensboro, NC, and son John David Freeman (Crystal) of New Orleans, LA. Four (4) grandchildren: Crystal D. Jones of Greensboro, NC, Jessica N. Thornton of Greensboro, NC, Larry V. Thornton II of Greensboro, NC, Julian J. Freeman of New Orleans, LA; Five (5) great grandchildren: Iyana S. Jones-Reese, Amber N. Jones-Reese, Alexandra B. Jones, Olivia M. Jones, and Romari L. Thornton of Greensboro, NC; sister Mary L. Hines of Greensboro, NC; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. A service honoring the life of Mrs. Freeman will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Trinity AME Zion Church; 631 East Florida Street, Greensboro, NC 27406. The visitation will begin at 2:00 pm and the service will follow at 2:30 pm. The interment will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, 235 Bingham Street, Greensboro, North Carolina 27401.
