Ethelyn Rachel Mahoney was born to the late Ed and Maggie Bratton August 10, 1942 Greensboro, N.C. She departed this life at Moses Cone Hospital July 18, 2026. Ethelyn was raised in Paterson N.J. where she attended school. In 1959 she returned to domestic engineer. Ethel grew up loving the Lord and was very faithful to God. She always encouraged her family to stay in church and stay faithful to God and she always said make sure you read your Bible. Ethel love to crochet, reading books and the Bible, and spending time with her children and grandchildren, and taking long country rides with her son. Ethel always saw the best in everyone and always gave encouraging words to everyone she talked to. Ethel always had a beautiful smile when she talked with people and a beautiful soft voice.

She was preceded death by her loving husband Lorenzo Mahoney, her Parents Ed and Maggie Bratton, her stepmother Willa Bratton Alston, Sisters Elizabeth, Annie Mildred, Bernice, Barbara, Carolyn, and brothers James, Cornell and Daughter Karen Johnson. 

Ethel leaves to cherish her memory Children, Mark Johnson, Kathy Johnson, Shelia Killingsworth, Connie (Chester) Jones, Cynthia (Ondray) Siler and special nieces, Pastor Linda Stancil, Brenda Vailes, and Lorraine Stancil, Ten Grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Ethelyn was the matriarch of our family her wisdom and leadership will be missed.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 12pm at Eller Memorial Baptist Church 1200 Fourth Street Greensboro, NC 27405, Visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Burial will be held at Guilford Memorial Park 6000 W. Gate City, Blvd Greensboro, NC 27407.
